We didn't set out to build an app.
We set out to fix screen time.
Why We Built Kahani Kids
“We didn't want to take the screen away.
We wanted to change what lived inside it.”
Every parent knows the moment: you're there, but stretched thin. The words don't land. The day has taken everything. So you hand over a screen, hoping it buys a little calm.
But most children's apps were built for attention, not growth. Passive, one-way experiences. No memory of the child. No meaningful role for the parent. No clear answer to the question that matters most: what is my child actually learning?
My years in finance taught me how powerful well-designed systems can be. They can adapt, respond, remember, and improve with every signal. And once I saw that, I couldn't stop seeing what was missing in early learning.
Children were being given the same content, at the same pace, in the same language, inside apps that kept families in the dark.
Most apps compete for your child's attention. We think that's the wrong goal. Technology should earn it. Kahani Kids was built from that belief: personalised, story-led learning that adapts to each child, brings parents back into the journey, and uses AI with intention, to help children grow with curiosity, confidence, and imagination.

“Children don't just listen to stories.
They live inside them.”
I knew that before I knew anything about education.
I spent years building systems that had to work at scale, in industries where the cost of getting it wrong was real. That training changes how you see problems. When I looked at how children learn, I didn't see a content problem. I saw an infrastructure problem. The wrong architecture, optimised for delivery rather than outcome, serving every child the same experience regardless of who they were.
The best products I had seen in my career shared one quality. They disappeared. You didn't notice them working. You just noticed the result. That is what we set out to build. Not an app children use. A system that works quietly, adapts constantly, and gets better the more a child grows into it.

The science
Built on what the research actually shows
UC Davis, 2021: Brain imaging research found that memories are easier to recall when separate events “form a coherent narrative” and are “woven together.”
That's how we think about screen time: not longer sessions, but richer ones.
